Positive Behaviour Management
NDIS Behaviour Support That Sees the Person, Not the Behaviour
At Best Care Services, we believe that every behaviour has a reason. Too often, participants with complex support needs are labelled as “challenging” or placed in the “too hard” basket after experiencing multiple provider breakdowns. Our approach is different.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred, evidence-based framework that seeks to understand the underlying causes of behaviours of concern and improve a participant’s quality of life. Rather than focusing on controlling behaviour, PBS aims to identify unmet needs, build skills, strengthen relationships, and create environments where people can thrive. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission recognises Positive Behaviour Support as a rights-based approach that promotes dignity, choice, and independence.
Our experienced team works alongside participants, families, support workers, and allied health professionals to develop practical Behaviour Support Plans tailored to each individual’s goals and circumstances. We take the time to understand what is driving behaviours and implement strategies that create meaningful, lasting change.
Where restrictive practices are in place, our focus is always on reduction and elimination. Restrictive practices, including environmental restraint, physical restraint, mechanical restraint, chemical restraint, and seclusion, should only ever be used as a last resort and within a regulated Positive Behaviour Support framework.
Many of the participants we support have previously experienced numerous provider changes, inconsistent approaches, or unsuccessful support arrangements. Through collaboration, specialist training, and a commitment to understanding the whole person, we help participants achieve greater stability, safety, community participation, and quality of life.
At Best Care Services, we don’t simply manage behaviours, we work to understand them, support the individual behind them, and build pathways to long-term success.
Behaviour Support for Neurodiverse and Psychosocial Disabilities
Supporting Neurodiverse Participants
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autistic participants may experience challenges relating to communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation, social interactions, or changes in routine. Our support workers focus on understanding each person’s individual needs and preferences while implementing strategies that promote independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.
Support may include:
- Community participation and social engagement
- Developing daily living skills
- Building confidence and independence
- Supporting communication preferences
- Implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies
- Establishing consistent routines and structure
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Participants living with ADHD may benefit from support with organisation, routines, emotional regulation, and achieving personal goals. Our team provides practical assistance and encouragement to help participants build skills, maintain engagement, and participate confidently in their communities.
Intellectual Disability
Many participants with intellectual disability benefit from tailored support that promotes choice, independence, and skill development. We work closely with support networks to implement behaviour support strategies that enhance quality of life while reducing barriers to participation.
Sensory Processing Differences
Some participants experience sensory sensitivities that can impact their comfort, communication, and participation in daily activities. Our support workers understand the importance of creating supportive environments and implementing strategies that respect each participant’s sensory preferences and needs.
Supporting Participants living with Psychosocial disabilities
Living with a psychosocial disability can present unique challenges that impact daily life, relationships, community participation, and independence. At Best Care, our experienced support workers work alongside participants, families, and allied health professionals to implement positive behaviour support strategies that promote wellbeing, build confidence, and improve quality of life.
We understand that every person’s experience is different. Our team provides compassionate, person-centred support tailored to each participant’s goals, strengths, and support needs.
Supporting People Living With:
Schizophrenia
People living with schizophrenia may experience challenges relating to communication, social engagement, daily routines, and managing symptoms. Our support workers provide consistent, structured support that promotes independence, community participation, and positive outcomes informed by the participant’s NDIS goals.
Bipolar Disorder
Participants living with bipolar disorder may require support to maintain routines, manage periods of instability, and work towards personal goals. We focus on building stability, encouraging meaningful participation, and supporting participants to maintain their independence.
Severe Anxiety
Anxiety can significantly impact a person’s ability to engage in everyday activities, access the community, or build relationships. Our team provides encouragement, practical assistance, and tailored support to help participants build confidence and increase community engagement at their own pace.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
People living with PTSD may benefit from predictable routines, trusted support relationships, and environments that promote safety and wellbeing. Our support workers implement strategies recommended by allied health professionals while fostering independence and personal growth.
Depression
Depression can affect motivation, social participation, and daily living activities. We provide compassionate support that encourages engagement in meaningful activities, strengthens social connections, and helps participants work towards their personal goals.
Positive Behaviour Support That Puts People First
We work closely with participants and their support networks to successfully implement behaviour support strategies, reduce barriers to participation, and help individuals live fulfilling and independent lives.
Whether support is provided in the home, the community, or within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment, our focus is always on dignity, choice, and achieving meaningful outcomes.
