Supporting bladder care with precision, hygiene and dignity

NDIS Urinary Catheter Support

Urinary catheter support requires more than general personal care. It demands close attention to hygiene, infection control, fluid balance, and health monitoring — especially for participants who cannot independently manage their bladder care.

At Best Care Services, we support NDIS participants who:

  • Use indwelling catheters (urethral or suprapubic)
  • Require intermittent catheterisation (male or female)
  • Have a neurogenic bladder due to spinal cord injury, MS, MND or CP
  • Are at risk of urinary retention, UTI, or autonomic dysreflexia
  • Require assistance to maintain hygiene, empty bags, or document fluid volumes
  • Need clinical monitoring due to prior blockages, dislodgement, or leakage

We are a registered NDIS provider, with staff trained under Core Module 1 – High Intensity Supports, capable of providing high-risk catheter care in line with written clinical health plans.

Our Urinary Catheter Support Services

Areas that we service

Our catheter care support is available across Greater Western Sydney, including:
Penrith, Blacktown, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden, Fairfield, Parramatta, Kellyville, Marsden, Richmond and Wallacia.

What our catheter care includes

We follow your written Catheter Care Plan, developed by a nurse, GP, or urologist. Our support may include:

  • Replacing and emptying urine drainage bags
  • Monitoring urine output, colour, and consistency
  • Observing and reporting signs of infection or complications
  • Checking catheter securement and positioning
  • Supporting with stoma hygiene (for suprapubic catheter users)
  • Maintaining infection control and personal hygiene standards
  • Completing accurate fluid balance charts and documentation
  • In some cases, inserting intermittent catheters, if approved and clinically supervised

Important: Insertion of indwelling or suprapubic catheters must always be done by a health professional. We do not perform these procedures, but we do support all surrounding care and escalation as required.

Our clinical supervision

Our team is mentored by Your Local Care Partner, a team of senior registered nurses with nearly 20 years’ experience each in:

  • Urology and continence care
  • Spinal and neurogenic bladder management
  • Complex disability and aged care
  • Infection prevention and hygiene
  • Intermittent catheterisation and bladder protocols

Our support workers, who provide high-intensity catheter care, are trained in:

  • Male and female urinary system anatomy
  • Catheter types (indwelling, suprapubic, intermittent)
  • Insertion techniques for intermittent catheters
  • Red flags: fever, pain, blood, blocked flow, dehydration
  • When to escalate or involve a health practitioner

Frequently Asked Questions

We support participants with indwelling catheters (urethral and suprapubic), and intermittent catheters (IDC/IC). We follow all hygiene, documentation, and care routines outlined in the Catheter Care Plan.

Yes — particularly when intermittent catheter insertion is involved. NDIS guidelines classify this as a high-risk activity, requiring specific training under Core Module 1 and clinical oversight.

Only intermittent catheters may be inserted by trained support workers under clinical supervision. Indwelling and suprapubic catheters must only be inserted by a nurse or health professional.

We support with bag emptying, stoma hygiene, skin checks, fluid monitoring, and infection prevention. We maintain accurate documentation and immediately report signs of infection, dislodgement or blockage.

We observe for fever, discoloured urine, reduced flow, bladder discomfort, odour, blood in urine, or leakage. These are flagged with your nurse or GP for prompt follow-up.

Yes. Our team is experienced with participants who use catheters due to neurological conditions. We understand how to manage timing, hydration, autonomic dysreflexia risk, and the emotional toll of long-term bladder support.

We assist participants who are working toward independence or bladder retraining under the guidance of a continence nurse or allied health team — including supporting hydration, timed toileting, and record keeping.

Our staff follow strict infection control procedures and work with complete discretion. We prioritise your comfort, privacy, and dignity at every stage of care.
