Community Access and Participation That Starts With Your Goals
Discover New Experiences. Build Independence. Achieve Your Goals.
At Best Care, we believe community participation should be about more than simply filling time. Every participant has different interests, strengths, and aspirations, which is why we create person-centred community participation plans that are tailored to each individual’s NDIS goals.
The NDIS recognises that goals can include building independence, developing new skills, working or studying, participating in social and recreational activities, and building meaningful relationships. Our role is to help participants turn those goals into real-life experiences and achievements.
Whether you want to make new friends, learn to travel independently, gain employment, or explore new places, our experienced support workers are here to support you every step of the way.
A Community Participation Plan Designed Around You
No two participants are the same.
Before we begin, we take the time to understand:
- Your interests and hobbies
- Your NDIS goals
- Your strengths and abilities
- New experiences you would like to try
- Skills you would like to develop
- Your long-term aspirations
Together, we create a participant-centred plan that helps you work towards the things that matter most to you.
Activities That Support Your Goals
Build Independence Through Travel Training
For many participants, greater independence starts with confidence using public transport.
Our travel training program can help participants learn to:
- Navigate public transport safely
- Read timetables and journey planners
- Travel to work, study, or social activities
- Build confidence travelling independently
Learning to travel independently can open doors to employment, education, and community participation opportunities.
Social Connections and Community Engagement
Building friendships and meaningful connections is an important goal for many NDIS participants.
We support participants to:
- Attend local events
- Join community groups
- Participate in sporting activities
- Explore new hobbies
- Build confidence in social settings
- Develop communication and social skills
Group Activities and SIL BBQs
Our regular social events provide participants with opportunities to meet new people, build friendships, and enjoy shared experiences in a welcoming environment.
Popular activities include:
- SIL BBQs
- Community gatherings
- Group outings
- Recreational activities
- Seasonal celebrations
These activities encourage social inclusion while supporting participants to work towards their goals in a fun and engaging way.
Day Trips and Local Adventures
Community participation can be about experiencing the world around you.
Participants may choose to enjoy:
- Visits to the zoo
- Vivid Sydney
- Museums and galleries
- Beaches and national parks
- Sporting events
- Festivals and community celebrations
Every activity is selected based on the participant’s interests and goals.
Employment and Workplace Readiness
Many participants have goals relating to employment, volunteering, or further education. The NDIS identifies work and study as common goals that participants may choose to pursue.
We can support participants to:
- Develop workplace confidence
- Build communication skills
- Practice travel to and from work
- Explore volunteering opportunities
- Prepare for employment pathways
- Increase independence in the workplace
Interstate Travel and Life Experiences
Some goals require thinking bigger.
For participants interested in travel, adventure, or visiting family interstate, we can assist with planning and supporting larger experiences, including interstate travel.
Whether it’s a trip to Queensland, attending a special event, or achieving a personal milestone, we work closely with participants and their support networks to create safe, enjoyable, and meaningful experiences.
Community Participation for Autism, Psychosocial Disability and Complex Support Needs
Our team has experience supporting participants with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Intellectual Disability
- Psychosocial Disability
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
- Neurological Conditions
- High Intensity Support Needs
We understand that community participation looks different for everyone. Some participants may be ready for group activities and employment pathways, while others may be working towards smaller goals such as visiting a local café independently or developing confidence in social settings.
Whatever the goal, we provide support that is respectful, person-centred, and focused on achieving meaningful outcomes.
